World of Warcraft – Item Upgrading Item upgrading allows players to boost the gear score of an item to 700 and add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded by keeping them in inventory before heading to the kiln. Certain items are worth upgrading because of their distinctive stats. (For example, a perfectly rolled breakpoint armor used in melee PvP). Other items like weapons aren't changed much after an upgrade and therefore aren't worth the cost. Weapons Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats such as damage to attack, crit chance PvE and damage from PvP. Weapons also come with a flat bonus that increases their damage per second. Some weapons also come with a fixed bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are placed in a unit. In some cases this bonus can add up to more than the amount of damage a weapon upgrades on its own. The cost of upgrading a weapon varies on its rarity and current level. For example, a +2 weapon will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while an upgrade of +3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade the gun will increase until it requires more Smithing Stones. At that point, it will reset back to one. Upgraded weapons can also alter their base stats. This is generally a positive thing, but it can also have negative consequences. Upgrades can make items unusable, unless you are very lucky. It is possible to upgrade armor items to increase their performance. This can boost the base defense of a chest or helm, while belts and gloves will increase their required strength and agility. Armor offers a rerolling option for its Enhanced Defense percent. This means that it may reduce its value. The upgrade template of a weapon will display the new stats it will gain after upgrading, along with the values of these stats. This means that a change from an 8 attack-damage sword to an 11-attack-damage sword will result in the weapon gaining 3% of attack damage. The 3% doesn't mean that the weapon will hit three times less, since it is an absolute number. A weapon can be rerolled by pressing the green button with circular arrows within the menu for items. This will reroll the item and change its stats, however, it will not reset the weapon's levels or tie it to the account status. Armor Adding a few upgrades to your armor can make an enormous difference in your ability to endure. Certain sets offer massive improvements in the resistance to curses, poisons, fire, and magic. This can make it easier to traverse difficult areas. The more defense your character is, the more value you will get from each point of health you possess, so it's important to upgrade your armor as much as you can. You can upgrade your armor by visiting any of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are item upgrader of them each of which requires you to complete a specific side-quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've done the main side quest and mastered the fountain in question you'll be able to speak to any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrading menu. The amount of materials needed to upgrade each piece of armor is different. In general, you'll need at anything from three to ten Red Chuchu Jellies and ten Rupees for the initial upgrade, and anywhere between five Rubies and 10 Fire-Breath Horns for each subsequent one. The Champion Leathers, for example can be upgraded to a 5 defense rating, which will allow you to stay ahead in frigid environments with a large number of enemies. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other side, can be upgraded to +20 defense so that you can survive a raid with friends. Note that armor can't be upgraded in the same manner as weapons, so you'll need to work on enhancing it to increase physical power if you're a Warrior or Spell Power in the case of a Mage. It is also recommended to save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor that you'll still wear by the end of the story, such as the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you'll wear in the final boss fight The Monter Parts Merchant Mask. You can also get some benefits to your armor by giving the jeweler in Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. Generally, you'll want to keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll be using to beat the game, like the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer, but it can be useful to have some improvements to the chest armor and helmets to let you stealthy battle certain monsters. Potions Potions are liquids that when consumed by a participant, produce the player with a temporary effect. There are five different types of potions, each having specific effects and durations. Some potions may be upgraded, increasing their level of effect. You can also enhance the effects of certain potions by including glowstone dust and redstone. Upgrades to potion require a certain amount XP. This can be earned by making them on a table or by storing them in the Alchemist chest. The price of upgrades varies based on the type of potion as well as the item's Rarity and Mark Level. To upgrade a potion to the next level, right-click on it in your inventory and choose the “Upgrade” option from the menu. This opens a GUI where you can choose the potions you wish to upgrade and the amount of XP they'll give you when upgraded. You can upgrade potions in batches up to five at once, and their XP will be added to the total XP you currently have. Once a potion is upgraded, it won't degrade until you use it again or break the bottle it is stored in. Clicking on the potion in your inventory will also allow you to change the name of the potion. Version 1.7.2 introduced a few changes to the mechanism of potions. Splash potions, for example, now have a duration zero, not the 22.5 seconds displayed on the hover display for the item. It may be a reference to a piece of art or a decoration that serves a function but is not particularly important like a thimble. In some cultures, trinkets are used to symbolize affection or friendship, specifically between family members. In addition to weapons, armor and potions, players are able to upgrade their trinkets. They can be upgraded by visiting an upgrade vendor and paying the appropriate currency. Trinkets unlike other items that can be upgraded can be exchanged at any time without losing statistics. Upgrade vendors can be found at the capitals of each zone, and sometimes in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are offered with gold, tokens or fragments of a rare trinket. The upgrade of a trinket can be a cost-effective alternative to purchasing an entirely new one. It can be done by a player for as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket will feature the same base ilvl of the previous one, and will come with an additional 1% upgrade bonus. When the old Trinkets are not usable they can be upgraded. This allows players to increase their power and value over time. They can be traded between players and are a viable alternative to gold. Players should upgrade their most important items first. This means that the most-important slot items for each class are upgraded first then their secondary gear and other pieces of equipment they won't replace in the near future (such as a ring or an cloak). It is also important to consider your class's preferred stats when choosing which items to upgrade. For example, if Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for a tank, they should be focusing on upgrading their chest, helm shoulders, belt, and helm. Trinkets are able to be upgraded to a higher ilvl after they're no longer needed, and the new trinket will have an additional bonus of 1% for upgrading. Re-upgrading will destroy the trinket unless it is salvaged using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a salvage tool. This means upgrading trinkets is more expensive than other upgrades, but is still less expensive than buying the new one.
